I don’t remember the last time I had
\ntang<\/a>. I have faint memories
\nof it as a child. There was something about NASA and something
\nabout a little kid at breakfast; that’s about it.<\/p>\n

But at 9000 feet I await my meal and what just happens
\nto be one of my beverage choices: the good old orange liquid
\nof the astronauts, sweet vitamin C tang. It was actually
\npretty good. It’s like orange juice without the juice and
\nwithout the fruit. Yum. Someone needs to investigate
\nthis NASA-tang relationship and explain it to me.
\nWe are not exactly in space here. In the
\nmeantime, my work on the telescope and it seem to fit just time.<\/p>\n

(Would someone please shut up the person behind me in the airport
\nwho has decided that everyone waiting for my flight wants
\nto hear how bad his business is going? He apparently wants
\nto fix the problem. I think we disagree about what the problem
\nreally is.)<\/p>\n

Another thing about Meana Kea is just how dry it is. Each
\nlittle room comes with its very own humidifier and boy does
\nit need it. On my first night on the mountain, I didn’t bother
\nto run it all night. That was a big mistake. I awoke in the
\nmiddle of the night with a piece of cardboard in my mouth.
\nI could have sworn I had a tongue. What is this nasty thing?
\nIt will be nice to get back to where the air has some moisture
\nand my nose can grab some oxygen now and then.<\/p>\n

Speaking of oxygen, it’s amazing how
\nwinded I can get at high altitude without the stuff. Simple
\ntasks like walking up steps all of a sudden take effort.
\nMy last trip to the mountain featured a room on the bottom
\nof a four story climb. Lugging the 1000 lb laptop to
\nthe top each day required a gargantuan effort.
\nAt more than 13000 feet these effects are more pronounced.
\nI’ll have to save my hopping around the telescope for a later
\ndate. All it does it give me a preview of legs and heart at
\n60.<\/p>\n

Now that I’m finally off the mountain, I have to say one of the
\nthings I’ll miss the most is the easy access to their bubbling
\ntub of tang. Maybe I’ll hit the grocery store and bring
\nback the eighties in style. Does anyone know if Mikey still
